  The Stranger works in any setting or genre (excluding hard realism for obvious reasons), but his origins are very SF based and won't actually change or, likely, even be of any importance to the RP. The MetaPot, the space between places that whisks him from RP to RP, is usually merely a means to an end but can be incorporated into a story. You can call him an entity, a demi-god, a human, or the likes, it's all the same to him, and unless we're getting into some gore/extreme environments, also likely won't matter. His active (rather than passive like the above) abilities are weak enough to not run the risk of turning into a deus ex machina.
  
  His design is questing adventure or character exploration, or even better both. There's also the option of doing something related to his history and future, but that requires a bit more backstory and planning. For some simple RP ideas as he works just about anywhere, Seventh Sanctum has some good story generators (other generators).
  
  The Story
  
  The Stranger has lived a very, very, very long time. He nonetheless seems to spite the idea that with age comes wisdom and retains an almost petulant lack of world-weariness and maturity. Perhaps this is because he doesn't age, but rather exists in some limbo outside of the passage of time, or he just refuses to let his varied and sundry pasts affect him on the surface.
  
  He himself doesn't know his beginnings, how he came to be, whether it was due to some great cosmic coincidence, joke, or actual intent. The Stranger just exists, and assumes he has always existed given that he does not remember any time when he wasn't who he is currently. As such, he actually has developed the habit of recording his story -- not as journals, as those are frequently lost or destroyed, but as a constant exercise to keep important things and people alive.
  
  Some relationships stand out more than others in his memory -- his lover, Pharan, and their son, Jaxur; the accidental abductee Fury; fellow SCP, ███; Nemo -- but he generally doesn't dwell on what could have beens or the likes. If he did, his story would be much more tragic than he seems to think it is.
  
  He lives firmly in the present, though it is a transient present, as the Stranger cannot stay too long in one place without drawing attention or trouble to himself. He goes out of his way to give little to no examination to his life, more specifically his future, which makes him rather deeply shallow. He really has no future that he can envision nor past that he can remember, leading to feelings of ennui and melancholy best left unmentioned and ignored.
  
  

  The Unknown Story

  The Stranger was born via intent. The seed of his existence originated somewhere outside of the multiverse he travels, where he cannot go; it was planted and gained form and being within the MetaPot, making the Stranger entirely not of this universe or any other.
  
  Though he seems a perfectly amiable person, unbeknownst to him, his purposes are less than savoury. The Stranger serves both as a rather faulty archive of the multiverse and as an agent of destruction against said multiverse. His mere existence works as a syphon of energy, stealing it away into the space outside of the multiverse and hastening entropy however unintentionally. He has other, less defined perogatives with similarly negative consequences. This can, in a vague way, be figured out by a character via number-crunching, prophesies, or however.
  
  As the universes are all very, very large places and the Stranger is only one person (even if having children expediates the process and weakens other aspects of reality), 99% of the time these things go unnoticed. That 1% though can manifest itself in all sorts of neat ways.
